Damien, Part 1

Damien
“And in Room 5 is Mr Sabbatini. He had a heart attack earlier this evening. Stable and responsive now, just here for supervision for the night.”
I carefully listened to Louise as she gave me the update.
“OK, thanks. Sounds like it could be a relatively calm night.”
“Let’s hope so!”

For the last five years I had worked at the Inova HealthPlex in Alexandria, Virginia as a registered nurse. I had wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember, the job had been so fulfilling to me. After working at a few hospitals, I had stayed here the longest. It just felt right.

I made a round past all the rooms in the department, to check if every patient was ready for bed. In Rooms 1 and 2 the lights were already off. Mrs Allen in Room 3 needed help to go to the bathroom before bed. Room 4 was all good.

When I got to Room 5, I noticed the lights were still on, yet I heard snoring the moment I stepped inside. Mr Sabbatini likely passed out early, understandable after such an intense day. As I walked into the room I realized there were two people snoring.

I looked up and saw Mr Sabbatini sleeping in his bed. I estimated him around 60 years old. His thin black hair made it very clear that he was balding. His mouth hung open and his facial muscles were completely relaxed, causing his snoring to be loud.

Damien
On the chair next to the bed sat a younger version of Mr Sabbatini. With about 30 years between them, this man was likely Mr Sabbatini’s son. His face looked exactly the same, the snoring just as loud. He still had all of his hair, which was carefully styled. He wore a black T-shirt and grey shorts, seemingly workout attire. I scanned his muscular body quickly as it was shown off so well. And that’s when I noticed it.

With his legs spread wide and the arms dangling off the armrests, Mr Sabbatini’s son was clearly in a deep sleep. And there it was, right in the middle. He was pitching a tent in his grey workout shorts. I bit my lip, enjoying the view. I got a blanket from the cabinet and carefully covered the son. Both men continued to be fast asleep. I turned the lights off and quietly left the room.

I finished my rounds and got back to the nurses’ station.
“Everyone is ready for the night”, I said.
“Good”, Louise responded.
“Mr Sabbatini still has a visitor.”
“Yes, his son. Came in from DC. Is he still there?”
“Yeah, they both fell asleep.”
“Leave him. He was very upset when he came in.”

It turned out to be quite a calm night as I had predicted.
“Hey Roy?”, Louise addressed me.
“Yeah?”
“Could you make your way over to neurology? They got some of our supplies.”
“Sure.”

About halfway through my shift, I enjoyed the break of a walk. It was almost 2:00 AM and the hospital was quiet. At neurology, it turned out they had a few extra bottles of medication that we had been missing in the last delivery. They gave me a paper bag. It turned out they were not having a calm night at all, so I didn’t stick around for a chat.

I walked back and got myself excited with the idea of getting Louise and myself a snack from the vending machine in the waiting area. When I walked into the waiting room I was surprised there were people there. I noticed two young women giggling while looking at their phone. They seemed so cheerful, they were likely waiting for someone from neonatal, right next door.

Damien
I chose a packet of M&Ms for me and Louise to share when I heard the snoring. There was another person here. I checked and saw Mr Sabbatini’s son. In pretty much exactly the same position as before. Clingy black T-shirt showing off his chest and arms, grey shorts up in a tent, doing a bad job at hiding a throbbing erection.

It took a few more seconds until I realized that the young women across from him were taking photos of him as he slept.
“That’s… don’t do that”, I intervened.
The young women looked back at me, suddenly embarrassed.
“S-sorry”, one said, as the other put her phone away.
They got up and left the room.

The snoring now echoed through the otherwise silent room. I crouched down beside Mr Sabbatini’s son.
“Hey…”, I whispered, touching his knee.
His cock twitched inside of his shorts.
“Sir?”

The man snorted and suddenly woke up. He looked around for a second before focusing on me.
“Sir? You fell asleep in the waiting room.”
“Oh… I-I’m sorry”, he said.
He realized his situation and casually covered his crotch.

“You’re Mr Sabbatini’s son, right?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m Roy Collins, a night shift nurse. I turned off the lights when I saw you had both fallen asleep.”
He grimaced.
“I’m Damien. Damien Sabbatini.”
He had a slight accent that my mind connected to New Jersey.
Damien

“I woke up and had to leave the room. It was all so surreal. So sudden.”
I stood up to go sit next to him.
“Do you have any other family?”
“No, it’s… It’s just me and him. I drove down from DC as soon as I heard.”
“I’m sure it was quite a shock.”
Damien nodded.
“But he’s looking good for now, right?”
“Yeah. And when the doctor told him about adjusting his diet, I really think my old man was up for it. I’ve been telling him for ages! But this scared him.”
“When things like this happen, it can serve like a warning.”
“Yeah…”

There was a short silence. Damien’s hands were still awkwardly covering his crotch. I was about to get up and get back to work when Damien spoke up.
“Thanks for talking to me.”
“No problem!”
“I got a little panicky earlier and I felt so alone.”
“I can imagine!”
“I better let you get back to work.”
I smiled.
“If you still need to talk, come and find me, all right? I’m here until 6.”
“Thanks.”

Damien smiled as we looked at each other. I felt some butterflies in my stomach.
“All right, I gotta…”, I finally muttered as I stood up.
“Yeah…”, he replied. “Bye. Thanks again.”
“Bye, Damien. Hang in there.”
I winked. He smiled. I walked back to the department.

The morning shift was starting to come in as Louise and I made sure to update everyone on what happened during the night. I had been thinking about Damien a few times during the remaining hours of my shift. I was guessing he wasn’t into me the way I was into him. Such a butch guy, he just needed someone to talk to. I couldn’t imagine he would be into me, or men in general. Yet, I was thinking about saying goodbye to both Damien and Mr Sabbatini before I changed and went home. But I didn’t need to.

Damien
Damien was waiting for me outside of the nurse’s station.
“Hey”, he said.
He put his hands in the pockets of his shorts. His smile was bright.
“Hey”, I replied, “good morning.”
“I was wondering, can I… can I take you to the cafeteria downstairs for some breakfast?”
Now my smile was bright as well.
“Just, you know… To say thank you.”

I got changed into a T-shirt and jeans as Damien waited for me. We took the elevator down together. His Dad had woken up and was feeling so much better already.
“He’s already got jokes like usual. I’m feeling good about taking him home today.”
“Good!”

Damien bought me breakfast as we ate together at a small table. I felt his bare knee against my jeans-clad knee a few times.
“Thanks so much for doing this”, I said.
“You are more than welcome. I admire you for what you do so much. It means a lot.”
I smiled.
“That’s always good to hear”, I said.

“Sorry if I smell, by the way”, Damien suddenly said, “I returned the call when I got back to the gym locker room. I had just finished working out.”
I chuckled.
“Don’t worry about it”, I said.
I did notice a musky smell, but I kind of liked it.

Damien
Damien and I got to know each other better. He said he was 28, about 5 years younger than me, and he had been working at an estate agency in DC for about a year. He was a sweet guy, and the longer we spoke and the longer I picked up on our chemistry, I wondered if Damien was actually into me after all.

After about half an hour, Damien said he wanted to get back to his Dad.
“Thank you so much for taking me out to breakfast though”, I said. “Say hi to your Dad for me.”
We both got up but neither of us started walking. I felt like we both wanted to see each other again.

“This may be a little forward, but… can I take you out again some time?”, Damien asked me. “On a real date this time.”
I chuckled. He was so gorgeous and so nice.
“Of course.”

Damien and I exchanged numbers. He hugged me goodbye. I smelled his neck and I realized I was getting horny. I felt so lucky this guy was into me.

With a big smile on my face I walked out onto the parking lot, got in my car and drove home.
